Occupation is a performance that explores the notion of occupying, transforming and disrupting space – both physically and psychologically. Commissioned as part of SafARI, Frances Barrett created a performance of sedation through ingesting sleep inducing pills. By placing her body among other works of art, Barrett disrupted the exhibition spaces (of Alaska Projects, Cross Arts Projects and The Corner Cooperative) with her motionless body, rupturing the curatorial vision of the SafARI Co-Directors.
